Age Friendly Communities

The Shire of Narembeen has launched a new initiative in 2016 with the adoption of an “Age Friendly Community Report & Plan”.

The Wheatbelt Development Commission’s 2014 Integrated Aged Care Plan identified that one of the most effective ways to create a strong community is to adopt an age-friendly approach to planning on a local level.

This plan has been developed with support from the State Government.

The Shire’s role will be to act directly on some of the identified tasks within the plan in a promotional or fostering role to prompt actions by other stakeholders and community members.

An Age Friendly Community is one which:

  • recognises the great diversity among older people;
  • promotes their inclusion and contribution in all areas of community life;
  • respects their decisions and lifestyle choices; and
  • anticipates and responds to ageing – related needs and preferences.
